Seminars a Regular Stop at Empire Farm Days

The DairyProfit Seminars at Empire Farm Days have become a regular stop for dairy producers, dairy farm staff and agribusiness professionals. This year’s show is slated for Aug. 9-11, at the Rodman Lott & Sons Farm near Seneca Falls, N.Y.  Cliff Passino, publisher of Eastern DairyBusiness Magazine previewed the seminars on DairyLine Radio.

2011 DairyProfit Seminars will feature presentations on intensive grazing, transitioning the farm to the next generation, and the latest findings to increase cow comfort. Next Step: Next Generation Taking Over Family Dairy

A seminar title: “How do you do it? – The next generation takes over the family dairy,” was held on Feb. 10, 2011 at the Dairy Profit Seminars building at World Ag Expo.

Caroline Berry, founder of Next Step, moderated a panel of members of dairy families and family farmers. Panelists included Ben and Ken Curti from Waukena; Lori Sousa Cardoza and Carl Sousa of Sousa Farms in Tipton; and Jody Graves of Graves Farms in Visalia.

The Skinny on Fatty Acids

Ongoing research shows the importance of the individual fatty acids both on rumen function as well as benefits to the cow for increased production and reproduction. National Dairy Producers Organization Unveils ‘Contract with Producers’

A group of dairy farmers unveiled their “Contract with Producers” this week at World Ag Expo.The founding members of the National Dairy Producers Organization outlined 20 issues they say needs to be resolved during these changing market conditions.

“It’s taken decades to get us to the current spot we’re in,” Gary Genske, spokesman and Treasurer of the group said. “We have not seen a producer organization that is nationally organized ever in the history of our industry. We constantly see our margins erode, our net worth’s erode and current proposals, in our opinion, do not protect us from erosion of net worth of the dairy farmer.”The organization holds daily and weekly calls with producers from across the country.“New Mexico last week we had 63 callers,” Genske said. “All of the other states, we have hit it off extremely well.
